In November, our family vacation took us on a 3 week trip across the world to Australia. My 3-year old daughter, of course, brought the love of her life with us - a little stuffed cat named 'Black Kitty'. Black Kitty has been a part of her world for more than 2 years and is always in her hand.
Black Kitty traveled well for most of the trip visiting museums, beaches, zoos and even the Great Barrier Reef. She rode on many planes, trains and boats. But it came to a quick end when we accidentally left her in Port Douglas.
We were sitting on the bus, an hour away headed to the Cairns Airport - when my daughter said, "Where's Black Kitty?" I frantically looked everywhere on the bus, but she was no where to be found.
Then my daughter started crying and said that she dropped her in front of the hotel. The pictures we took just an hour before confirmed that! My heart was broken as I watched my three year old's first heart break! I looked into her big, sad, wet blue eyes and saw how upset she was at the loss of Black Kitty! This was the most dramatic thing for her. I just wanted to make it better! All I could think about was how I could jump off the bus, run back and not miss my flight. But since we were in the middle of nowhere and already an hour away, I knew that was totally unrealistic.
We called the hotel manager, and he told us that he found Black Kitty! We were very lucky! He told us that he would ship it to the place we were staying in Melbourne. Our fingers were crossed that we would get it before we headed back to the US that week. My daughter didn't understand...she wanted Black Kitty now!
My sad little girl cried herself to sleep, and was so sad on the plane back to Melbourne. The next few days were awful, watching her cry and remember her kitty. And she asked every hour if the mail came yet!
It all worked out, as Black Kitty came the day before we were leaving for the US. When she got it back, it was better than Christmas morning!
