General Questions
What is LostMyLovey?
LostMyLovey is the online lost-and-found for children's toys, accessories and other lost children's items. We reunite kids with their best friends! We also sell soft-and-cozy ID Tags to attach to your child's lovey so that in the event it is lost, the Finder can easily and quickly contact the Owner. The tags are child-safe and have no personally identifying information.
Who owns LostMyLovey?
You can read more
About Us, but LostMyLovey was started by a Mom who spent the better part of 5 years looking for her children's loveys as they were lost over and over again in grocery stores, restaurants, and parks. Although she always managed to find them, she kept thinking -- what if someone found it and wanted to give it back, but didn't have any way to figure out who the owner was? Thus, an idea was born.

How It Works
How does it work?
You can read more on the
How Does It Work page, but basically you can post your lost or found item on our website free of charge for 1 year. If someone finds (or owns) the item you've listed, they can contact you to arrange the return of the item.
If you know the item is gone forever and you are looking for another one, you can
post a Replacement Wanted request and see if someone knows where to get another one.
If you purchase a LostMyLovey™ ID tag, you get a custom-embroidered tag with your phone number and a unique ID number that is assigned only to you. If someone finds your lovey with the tag attached, they can call you directly, or alternatively, go to our website and type in the ID number. Tt sends us an automatic email with their message and contact information. Then we start the ball rolling to get your item back to you! The tag is made of child-safe materials and attaches to your lovey with an elastic band.
Why do I have to be a member to list something?
We know, you have joined a million websites and all you get is another email every week with the latest item on sale. 50% off khakis again!!??!! That's not what we're about. All contact between Finders and Owners takes place in our private messaging system, and only members can use it. This helps us cut down on spam and fraudulent responses, and allows owners and finders to contact each other easily and safely. It's painless, we promise. And we won't spam you. Ever. Okay, we might send you an email ONCE with some important update to our service, but it will definitely not be once a week or even once a month.
Why do I have to be a member to contact someone about their lost/found item?
All contact goes through our private messaging system, and you have to be a member to use it. Imagine the chaos that would reign if we let just anyone send our members an email from a contact form. You would get all kinds of spam, and we know you don't want that. Unless you like cashing $10,000,000 fake checks from Nigeria.
What does it cost to list something on your website?
Nothing! It's absolutely, 100% free to list a lost, found, or replacement-wanted item on our website.
Do I have to purchase a LostMyLovey ID tag to list something on your site?
No, the ID Tag is kind of like insurance for the next time. If you've already lost your item, buying a tag won't help you. But it will keep you from going through this same pain again if your lovey is lost a second time!

Lost or Found Listings
What do I do if I lost something?
First step, look through the
Found Items to see if someone has found your item and listed it there. If not, you can
Post a Lost Item listing. If someone finds your item and sees your listing, they will join our site, and contact you via a private message.
Remember when you post a listing, please do not include your email address, physical address, phone number, child's name or any other personally identifying information, as it will be visible to anyone with an internet connection, and will make you a target of spam or other unwanted contact. If a member needs to contact you, they can do so through our private messaging system safely.
What do I do if I found something?
First step, look through the
Lost Items to see if someone has lost your item and listed it there. If not, you can
Post a Found Item listing. If the Owner sees your listing, they will contact you via a private message.
Remember when you post a listing, please do not include your email address, physical address, phone number, child's name or any other personally identifying information, as it will be visible to anyone with an internet connection, and will make you a target of spam or other unwanted contact. If a member needs to contact you, they can do so through our private messaging system safely.
What kind of items can I post?
LostMyLovey is primarily designed for children's loveys, those soft, huggable, very-loved, usually ratty and threadbare toys. However, we recognize that loveys come in all shapes and sizes. One of our kids fell in love with a hard plastic cow and took it everywhere for two years! It is okay to post any children's toy such as a stuffed animal, blanket, doll, toy car, etc. or even other children's items such as clothing, bikes, videogames, etc. Just please don't post any grownup stuff like wallets, watches, PalmPilots, iPhones, etc.
How do I see my private messages?
You will be notified via email when you receive a private message. To read or reply to the message,
log into our private messaging system and you'll see your messages and any pictures or other attachments there.
How do I get my item back? How do I get the item back to its Owner?
NOTE: We can’t stress enough how important it is to protect yourself when retrieving your item. Don’t give out any personal contact information unless you feel comfortable with the other party. If you use our private messaging system, your contact information will be private until you choose to reveal it.
The Owner will first try and to coordinate with the Finder, you will give each other your contact information and try to coordinate the best way to return the item. The Finder can return the item by mail, or you can meet at a mutually convenient public location to retrieve the item.
If you are meeting with the Finder, the safest way is to meet in a busy public place such as a coffee shop. Don't agree to meet at the Finder's house, or have them meet you at yours. It's just not safe. LostMyLovey disclaims any and all responsibility if you choose to reveal any identifying information about yourself and/or your child. Please read our important Safety Guidelines for more information.
What if I don’t want to give the Finder my address for mailing?
You can select a mutually convenient public location to meet to retrieve your item, such as a coffee shop.
Can I offer a reward for my item? Can I ask for a reward for finding an item?
LostMyLovey does not permit rewards on our website. This helps prevent someone from claiming they have found your lost item, just to obtain the reward money. It also keeps someone from holding your item for ransom. C'mon folks, these are children's precious toys we are talking about, not a Cartier watch. Give the item back to its Owner out of the goodness of your heart. If a Finder is trying to extract a reward out of you,
report it to us (select "Report Abuse" as the subject).
If the Finder mails the item back, who pays for the mailing?
That's a great question, and it is really up to the Finder and the Owner to coordinate that. If the item is extremely heavy, it would be really nice for the Owner to reimburse the Finder for the shipping cost, but it's not required. Most items will be small enough that it will only cost a few dollars to mail it back. Owners may offer to reimburse Finders for their trouble if they would like to. But only after the lovey is safely back at home. If a Finder is trying to extract a reward out of you,
report it to us (select "Report Abuse" as the subject).
I found an item. Can I just mail you the toy and let you find the owner?
Oh dear, we are imagining a large stack of loveys, children's jackets, books, and skateboards filling up the closet, the shelves, the dog's bed, the fax machine... please don't send us found items. We are simply a classified-ad lost-and-found service. We don't have personnel and staffing to handle lost or found items. It's up to you to connect with each other. Remember, you're helping another parent. Do something you'll feel good about later!
The only exception to this rule is if you find an item with a LostMyLovey ID Tag. As part of the ID Tag service, we are committed to returning these items to their owners. If we don't hear back from the Owner right away once we have contacted them, we may ask you to send the item to our office.
I found an item with a LostMyLovey ID Tag. What do I do?
Go to our
Found with ID Tag page, type in the ID number from the tag. We will immediately contact the Owner with your message and let them know their item has been found. We will then put the two of you in touch with each other so you can coordinate the return of the item.
I found an item with a LostMyLovey ID Tag, but the Tag ID # is missing or illegible.
Please
contact us in this situation. Tag owners are asked to describe the item they will be attaching the tag to, so we might be able to help determine who owns it.
I want to feature my item on the home page.
Once you post a Lost item for the first time, your item will automatically display in the Home Page "Have You Seen Me?" box for 6 months. The items in that box rotate randomly every time the page is refreshed, so your item will be given equal display time with all the other loveys being displayed. Even if you don't see it when you look at the site, someone else may be seeing it on their computer.
I don’t see my item listed on the home page.
Featured items appear on the home page in random order, so you won't see it right away. Try refreshing the page several times. Remember that just because you don't see it, doesn't mean others aren't seeing it either. What you see on your screen at any given moment will be different from what another user will see. The web server grabs a new featured item every time the page is requested, from any computer.
I’ve even refreshed the page several times.
It's possible that for some unforeseen technical glitch, your item isn't showing up in the "Have You Seen Me?" box. Keep in mind that if there are a lot of missing loveys on the site currently, it may take awhile for your lovey to show up. If you refresh many times and still don't see it,
contact us and we'll check it out.
Can you feature my FOUND item or REPLACEMENT wanted item on the home page?
The "Have You Seen Me?" box is really only for lost items. This is sort of like the "milk carton" to get lost items out there to the public as quickly as possible. In the future we may have a feature box for found items, but for now this is what we've got.
I posted an item, but I don’t see it on the website.
Did you post the item in the right section? For example, did you post a Lost item when you meant to post a Found item? Look through the Lost, Found, and Replacement wanted sections. If your Item is in the wrong place,
contact us.
When you posted the item, did you click the "Preview" button? If so, you still need to click the Submit button after Previewing to submit your item. Previewing by itself will not post your item to our website.
I need to edit my listing or change the picture on it.
To edit your listings, go to "My Account" at the top of the page and once in your account, click "View My Listings". All your listings will be there for you to edit, delete, update as necessary. You can upload one photo per listing, so to change the photo, click the trash can icon next to your photo first before uploading a new one.
I can’t upload a picture to my listing.
If your picture is larger than 2000 pixels wide or tall, the web server will tell you no. Please try resizing your image in Google Picasa or a similar program, and then you should have no problem. If you are still having trouble uploading a photo to your listing, please
contact us for assistance. We'd be glad to help you out! A picture is really so helpful in finding a lovey!

Replacement Wanted Listings
How do the Replacement Wanted listings work?
Replacement Wanted listings are a little different than Lost and Found listings. Here you can post a listing asking where you can get another toy like what you've lost. Or maybe you are looking to purchase a couple of backups just in case. Other members might also like to know the answers to your questions, so we post the responses as comments under your post, instead of you sending each other private messages.
Remember when you post a listing, please do not include your email address, physical address, phone number, child's name or any other personally identifying information, as it will be visible to anyone with an internet connection, and will make you a target of spam or other unwanted contact. If a member needs to contact you privately, they can do so through our private messaging system safely.
How do I respond to a Replacement Wanted listing?
Just like for the lost and found listings, we ask you to register for our site first to be able to post comments. Once you are registered, you will see a box below each Replacement Wanted listing to submit your comments with.
Will LostMyLovey find me a replacement?
That would be so nice, but we just don't have the personnel to handle that type of request. We are looking upon the good spirit and good will of the internet community to help out a fellow parent in need.
How will I be notified if someone responds to my post?
You will be notified via email if someone posts a comment (response) to your Replacement Wanted post. Comments appear below your item listing on the page. Then you can read the post on our website and even post your own response to their comment.
Click here to return to the list of questions.
Communication Between Owners/Finders
I’ve tried to contact someone about a listing and got no response. What do I do?
You can attempt to contact them again, but it may be that the Owner no longer wants the item back, or doesn't want to communicate. Whatever the reason, you did your best. You can try contacting us to see if they have an alternate email address and we can attempt to contact them for you. If a Finder posts an item you know is yours and you really want it back, but they aren't responding, contact us and we'll do our best to help. We can't make any guarantees though.
If I respond to a posted item, will the person I’m responding to see my email address?
No. All communication between Owners and Finders goes through our private messaging system, which does not reveal any information other than your member name and your message. So your email address, phone number, and any other private information will not be revealed until you choose to reveal it.
LostMyLovey disclaims any and all responsibility if you choose to reveal any identifying information about yourself and/or your child. Please read our important Safety Guidelines for more information.
I typed in the ID # of a LostMyLovey ID tag, but I got no response. Can I mail the item to you?
Obviously you should try calling the phone number on the tag first. But if that doesn't work, visit our website. When you type in a Tag ID number into our website, we contact them directly instead of you sending them a private message through our system. So we are responsible for getting in touch with them. We will let you know what to do with the item next; each situation will be handled on a case-by-case basis. We may send you the contact information for the Owner for the two of you to coordinate return, or we may send you a mailer so you can mail the item to us (if the Owner is on vacation for example). If you don't hear from us within 7 days,
contact us.
What if someone contacts me and I feel uncomfortable?
You never have to reveal any kind of private contact information if you don't want to; our private messaging system keeps your information confidential until you decide to reveal it. If you feel uncomfortable about anyone at any time, just stop communicating with them on our system. You can also "ignore" certain members using the links in our Private Messaging system. If you need help, contact us.
What if someone spams/harasses/threatens me?
There are several steps to take in this situation. If you are receiving spam, threatening, or harassing messages through our private messaging system, this is a violation of our User Agreement. So first thing to do is
report them on our Contact Page (select "Report Abuse" for the subject). We will investigate the member and may ban them from our site altogether.
In the meantime, you can block the member by
adding them to your blocked list and you will no longer receive messages from that member.

LostMyLovey ID Tag
What is the LostMyLovey™ ID Tag? What do I get with it? How does it Work?
The LostMyLovey ID Tag is a soft ribbon and cotton loop, with an elastic band for attaching to your child's lovey. We make it soft so your child won't complain about a hard plastic or leather tag on their special friend. Your phone number is on one side for super-quick contact if your item is lost... our website address is on the back with a unique ID number that is assigned to you. If you have a blanket or a blankie-style lovey, we have a ribbon-only version that you can sew on to the bottom corner of your lovey.
Imagine you are in the airport, your child drops their lovey, and you don't realize it until you are on the plane and it is too late. Anyone traveling anywhere (from anywhere) could pick it up. It could be on its way to San Francisco by now. How would they know where to find you? If your lovey has the LostMyLovey ID Tag on it, you might get a call before you even take off the runway!
They can alternatively go to our website, type in the ID number, and send us a message with their contact information. An automatic email is then sent directly to our staff, who then forwards it to you. Then we start the ball rolling to get your item back to you! If we don't get in touch with you right away, we keep trying until we reach you. Anyone with an internet connection can contact us, no matter where they are.
With the ID tag, you get a little more personal hands-on interaction from the LostMyLovey staff than if you just posted a regular Lost Item listing. We personally deal with each and every ID Tag that is found, and can hold your lovey in our office if you are on vacation for example.
What is it made of? Are the materials child-safe? My child puts things in her mouth.
The tag is made of cotton printed ribbon, stabilizer interfacing, cotton webbing, elastic and thread. These materials are considered child-safe by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. There are no metal snaps, hooks or other attachments, and no plastic, so no worries about lead or BPA/phthalates. We have done our best in attempting to make the tag compliant with current child safety standards.
By becoming a member of this website and purchasing the ID Tag, you have accepted our website User Agreement, which states the following:
You agree that the elastic-band version ID Tags are intended to be attached to your item with the small elastic band provided with the ID Tag. You agree that the ribbon-style version of the ID Tags are to be sewn to the blanket or other item in accordance with our sewing instructions, sewing securely and completely, all the way around the perimeter of the tag. By purchasing the ID Tag of either type, you agree that you are responsible for keeping the ID Tag securely attached to your item at all times. A safety pin does not consitute secure attachment.
LML disclaims any and all responsibility for ID Tags which are not used as intended, and which are not securely attached to their items by the purchaser. Please read our Safety Guidelines and User Agreement for more information.
How much does it cost?
For current pricing click
here. The cost covers the tag itself, and all our efforts on your behalf to get your lovey back to you. It does not cover shipping costs for returning the lovey to the Owner. If the Finder will be shipping the lovey to you, Owners and Finders can coordinate reimbursement of shipping fees should they desire to.
What colors does it come in?
Check out all our available colors and patterns
here!
Will the tag still work if I lose my item on a trip outside of my home city?
Of course! Whoever finds it can call you anywhere, and if not, they will just use the internet to get to our website, and the email still comes to you. If you get your emails on your smart phone, you may even get the information when you are still on your trip!
I found an item with a LostMyLovey ID Tag. What do I do?
First, call the number on the tag. If you get no response, go to our
Found with ID Tag page, type in the ID number from the tag. We will immediately contact the Owner with your message and let them know their item has been found. We will then put the two of you in touch with each other so you can coordinate the return of the item.
I found an item with a LostMyLovey ID Tag, but the Phone # or Tag ID # is missing or illegible.
Please
contact us in this situation. We may be able to ask you some questions to help determine who owns it.
I have several loveys to protect with your ID tag. Can I buy more than one?
Of course! You can buy up to five tags per registered ID on our website. If you need more than that,
contact us and we'll be happy to assist you.
Does the tag have to stay with the same lovey? Can one tag be used for different toys?
You are welcome to move the tag around to different loveys and other items as necessary. Sometimes the toy that was mission-critical on Monday, just isn't as important on Wednesday!
Should I let you know when I’m going on vacation?
Only if you are inviting us along! Tag owners can rest assured that we will keep trying to contact you for several weeks before we finally give up. So unless you are going on vacation for 6 months and won't be checking your email address or home phone, you don't need to let us know.
Do I have to buy a tag to list something on your website?
No, the ID Tag is kind of like insurance for the next time. If you've already lost your item, buying a tag won't help you. But ID Tag Owners who lose their loveys get featured on the home page free of charge.
I lost my ID Tag and need another one. What do I do?
Because the LostMyLovey tag is a custom embroidered item, we are not able to offer a discount on a replacement. Please log in to the website and simply order another tag. We will give you a new Tag ID # and remove the old one from our database. If you need more infomation,
contact us and we'll be happy to help.
I want to buy the ID Tag as a gift. Do I need to register for your site first?
The LostMyLovey ID Tag makes a great gift! You don't have to register on our site to purchase a gift. On each product page, there is an Add to Cart button that says "Add to Cart - GIFT". This will allow you to purchase a tag for a friend. We'll send your friend an email notifying them of your gift, with instructions for registering on our website, choosing a color combination and providing us with the phone number they wish to include on the tag, as well as their shipping address. Once they have completed these steps, we'll mail the tag right out to them!
IMPORTANT: be sure to include your friend's name and email address in the "GIFT RECIPIENT NAME & ADDRESS" box during PayPal checkout.

Can I have more than one account?
Yes, but the separate accounts must have separate email addresses. You can have up to three ID Tags associated with one account/email address. Tag ID numbers cannot be attached to more than one account/email address.
For example, Jane has 3 ID Tags. She can have one account with a single email address that all those tags are associated with. If she creates another account, she cannot have those same ID Tags associated with the new account. If she deletes the old account, the new account will not automatically have the ID Tag numbers associated with it. We will have to transfer them to the new account. Jane, quit messing around and please
